Animal lover pleads with dog catchers in viral video

PETALING JAYA: A video of a Muslim animal lover pleading with dog catchers not to catch a stray dog under her care has gone viral on Facebook.
In a post on her Facebook profile with the accompanying video, Cik Putri wrote: "That which I feared most has happened, right in front of my eyes. I have been controlling my anger against the old uncle for a long time now, since he poisoned the dogs and cats in my housing area.
"What makes me even more angry is when I pleaded with the dog catchers to let the puppy go, he suddenly came out from his house and insisted that the dog catchers take the puppy away, all my efforts just went to waste," she said in the post which garnered over a 1,000 likes and 961 shares.
In the video posted several hours ago on her Facebook profile, Cik Putri who is not visible in the video can be heard saying: "Why do you have to catch this dog? It doesn't disturb anyone, even though it is a stray dog, it doesn't bother people, why do you have to catch it?" she said in a teary voice, as the three dog catchers proceeded to lift the trapped dog in a net and walk away with the animal.
The video has since received over 47,000 views on Facebook.
According to Cik Putri, even though she is a Muslim, it has not stopped her from feeding the dog. Adding that its presence behind her home, has helped to ward off robberies in the area.
"The Malay officer asked me, are you Malay? Why?? are Malays not allowed to do good for God's creatures?" she said.
At press time, 500 Facebook users had commented on Cik Putri's post.
Many of those who commented praised Cik Putri for trying her best to save the dog, and urged her to stay strong. While others expressed sadness for the dog that had been caught and would most likely be put down.
There were many who also questioned why people were quick to report dogs that don't chase people and actually help to guard the community. Saying having dogs around serves as a solution to ward of burglars.
