Survey shows 50% of Malays not in favour of Red shirt rally

PETALING JAYA: Fifty percent of Malays are not in favour of the "Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu" or the "Red shirt" rally, according to a survey carried out by the Merdeka Center.
The survey carried out by the independent pollster from Sept 10 to 15 shows that only 24% of its 516 registered ethnic Malay voters from across all states and territories in Peninsular Malaysia supported the rally.
"The survey found that only 24% of respondents supported the rally while 53% did not support it and 22% were not sure.
"The respondents were distinguished along gender, urban-rural as well as socioeconomic lines," Merdeka Center said in a statement today.
Merdeka Center added that when asked about their reasons for supporting the rally, many said that it was to protect the dignity of the Malays, show support for the government and to protest against the Bersih 4 rally.
Those who disagreed with the rally, said they feared it would cause chaos and give rise to ethnic tensions.
