KUALA LUMPUR: About 2,000 rally goers gathered this morning, in the vicinity of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), one of the locations for the 'Red shirt' assembly before they march to Padang Merbok.

Clad in red t-shirts emblazoned with, "Himpunan Maruah Melayu", they were also carrying placards and banners while chanting "Hidup Melayu".

Police who were manning the area told theSun that the participants started thronging the city centre as early as 8am.
Despite the hazy conditions, the number of rally goers continues to rise.

A participant, Shariffudin, also known as Roy, 31, told theSun that the gathering is meant to unite the Malays and remind them of their rights.
These rights, he said, falls under the bumiputra rights – financial, economical and social.
He also dismissed the notion of the gathering being anti-Chinese or anti-DAP.
"However, we want to show that the Malays also have the same strength like the Chinese community during the recent Bersih 4.0," he said.
When asked to comment the fear of certain group regardless of race or creed, he brushed it off, saying it will be held peacefully.
Some 50 policemen were also spotted at Padang Merbok with several City Hall officers monitoring them.
