Live updates: Red shirt rally

11.10pm Streets around the city are empty as order was restored, but police forces are still instructed to patrol the city to ensure nothing untoward happens.
8.10pm Roads in front of Petaling Street are reopened to motorists. However, Petaling Street is still closed to public with police guarding the main entrance.
8.00pm Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Jalan Silang and Jalan Pudu are also already opened to traffic.
8.00pm Except for some incidents in Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street, the red shirt rally today proceeded smoothly, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa. Read more here
5.15pm The gathering at Padang Merbok has ended. The crowd is slowly making their way out of the venue.
4.51pm Police were forced to unleash water cannons on Red Shirt protesters in Petaling Street, when the 1,000 strong crowd persisted with their attempts to break through the barricades and enter the popular tourist enclave. Read more here
4.51pm A fight erupted in front of Petaling Street. Water bottles and cones were thrown at police as FRU personnel engaged some of the rally participants. Some people were detained.
4.32pm Emcee at Padang Merbok announces that about 50,000 participants are already here, including those who marched from Jalan Conlay.
4.15pm Participants are still pushing to enter into Petaling Street, as the crowd continues to grow.
3.51pm The crowd is starting to gather at the entrance of Petaling Street as FRU personnel have barricaded the entry. Police said the route into Petaling Street was not included in the initial route during the rally's permit application.
2.19pm: Red shirt rally participants near Jalan Conlay and Masjid Negara has started their march to Padang Merbok, where the highlights of the rally will be held. Read more here
2.03pm: The International Trade and Industry deputy minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the gathering today is meant to display the difference between legal rallies that has been approved by the authorities as opposed to those that were not. Read more here
1.13pm: Two Chinese reporters, believed to be from the broadcasting stations, were escorted out by the police at Jalan Conlay red-shirt gathering area as the situation became intense when they tried interviewing some participants. Read more here
11.54am: About 2,000 rally goers gathered this morning, in the vicinity of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), one of the locations for the 'Red shirt' assembly before they march to Padang Merbok. Read more here
