PETALING JAYA: MCA has asked the police to investigate parties at the 'red shirt' rally who carried a 'Hapuskan SJKC' (Get rid of Chinese vernacular schools) banner under the Sedition Act and to hold the organisers of the rally responsible for the banner as well.
MCA deputy national organising secretary Datuk Chai Kim Sen said in a statement that the banner is seditious and provocative.
"We want the police to take the sternest action and leave no stone unturned," he added.
He said that the banner is detrimental to national unity and undermines racial harmony as well as being prejudiced and discriminatory against the Chinese community.
He said that MCA had opposed the rally from day one as it wielded racial undertones and because it was held on Malaysia day where Malaysians should be celebrating unity and diversity.
Meanwhile, Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong said the party is disturbed by the reprehensible display and use of racist and provocative language and utterances during the rally by some participants.
He also criticised the presence of several senior government leaders as it was perceived as wrongfully legitimising racism and against the Barisan Nasional's efforts in promoting social integration and unity.
