Third session of Malaysian Youth Parliament convenes

KUALA LUMPUR: The third session of the Malaysian Youth Parliament (PBM) comprising 125 members convened today and will be debating four motions in the legislative hall of the Dewan Rakyat for two days.
The sitting which began at 10am was chaired by Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, Datuk Ronald Kiandee, followed by a prayer.
Ronald in his brief speech said the sitting this time is expected to highlight the potential of youth as future leaders and have a positive impact on the overall development of the nation's youth.
The sitting began with the Education and Career Committee of Malaysian Youth (Penang) chairman, Ahmad Wafi Sahedan suggesting the government create a programme 'English in Rural Areas' to promote the use of English among rural students.
In addition, three other proposals to be debated are the implementation of a single stream in schools, proposal to improve the financial management system and political funds as well as a proposal to regulate the distribution, sale and production of electronic cigarette (vape) in Malaysia.
All these four motions, discussed and agreed upon during the sitting, will be submitted to the Cabinet.
The Youth Parliament is an initiative unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak about two years ago and it among others aims at producing young potential leaders with caliber, competence and integrity, in line with the nation's current and future needs.
There are nine committees in the Youth Parliament system, namely:

» International Relations and Diplomacy
» Security, Integrity and Law
» Education and Career
» Culture, Sports, Patriotism and Integration
» Infrastructure, Development and Environment
» Health and Community Development
» Technology and Innovation and Spiritual and Religious Affairs.
