Couple arrested, RM68,066 worth of drugs seized

IPOH: Police arrested a couple from Penang, believed to be drug traffickers, and recovered various drugs weighing 2,416.86g worth RM68,066 in Sungai Siput on Sunday.
Perak Narcotics Crime Department acting chief Supt R. Ravi Chandran said police initial investigations revealed that the husband and wife team sold their drugs to buyers in Ipoh and Sungai Siput.
"The drugs seized on Sunday can easily be sold to some 3,000 people," he said, adding the man aged 57, a petty trader had one previous drug record in 2010 while the woman, 46, is a housewife.
They are being investigated under Section 38B and Section 39A(2) 1952, where upon conviction they could face mandatory death sentence.
Acting on a public tip off, Ravi Chandran said, a police team detained the couple who were in a car in front of a house in Taman Jalong Baru, Sungai Siput at about 9.15pm.
Upon checking, he added, the police found six plastic packets of heroin weighing 2,268.52g, three plastic packets of methamphetamine weighing 102.23g and 150 Eramin pills in 15 aluminium foils weighing 46.11g.
The couple have been remanded until Sept 27 to facilitate investigations.
Meanwhile, Ravi Chandran said a total of 9,269 people were arrested for various drug offences including trafficking, possession, addiction and under preventive measures from Jan 1 until Sept 20 this year in Perak.
Police also seized properties including vehicles and cash worth more then RM5.8 million along with drugs seized valued at more than RM4.7 million.
