KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) today condemned Islamophobia, saying it is an extreme form of opression and discrimination.
In his latest posting on his Twitter site and blog najibrazak.com, he cited as an example the incident in the United States where a Muslim teenage boy was detained by police over an electronic clock that he had invented, which was misunderstood to be a bomb.
"This is what is called Islamophobia. Their tendency to always link Islam with terrorism is something that should be condemned vehemently," he said.
He said Islam was often linked with terrorism when in fact terrorism was a humanitarian crisis which involved all irrespective of religion, and there were many non-Muslim groups which also carried out terrorism.
The war which cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and Israeli cruelty against Palestinians are also a form of terrorism, and on a larger scale and have been happening for decades, said Najib.
He said the use of nuclear and chemical bombs, which killed many innocent people, was also a form of terrorism.
"The perpetrators were not Muslims but they were not called terrorists," he said.
As such, the Prime Minister called on everyone to unite to protect each other regardless of religion. – Bernama
