GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) today urged Prime Minister Datu Seri Najib Abdul Razak not to keep silent about the new graft allegation made by the International New York Times (INYT) related to American real estates.
Lim said the first page news on INYT is a serious allegation and the prime minister must file a defamation suit in the US if it was not true.
"Up until today he has not filed any defamation suits against Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
"Is he going to keep silent again? He is in New York now," he told reporters during a press conference at his office early today.
Lim said the matter is a very serious issue and is affecting the economy of the country and has also affected international confidence in the country's economy.
On another development, Lim has described 1MDB's attack against him as something to be proud of.
He said that he is not bothered by the attack and takes that as a badge of honour for him.
"I am not bothered if they want to attack me, but let us hope they talk facts, answer the questions that has been raised, by not only me, Tony Pua and Rafizi (Ramli) but also by Tun Dr Mahathir. That is my reply to them.
"I don't consider that as anything but a badge of honour, a badge of pride," he said.
Yesterday, 1MDB released a statement to counter Lim's earlier statement which blamed the debt ridden firm for Malaysia's 'junk status' by credit defaults swap traders (CDS).
In the statement 1MDB stated that the situation did not reflect the country's economic fundamentals and said that the statement (by Lim) was unsubstantiated.
