GEORGE TOWN: A police report has been lodged over a fake tweet, allegedly made by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, by political secretary to the Chief Minister Wong Hon Wai.
According to Wong, the tweet, calling for those who do not agree to the ban on loudspeakers for mosque activities except for the azan to leave the state, was made in a bad intention to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister and also an attempt to disturb public order.
"There are certain bad elements in this country creating this fake tweet in their effort the good name of Chief Minister and also to disturb the public order in the state.
"I hope police and Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) can do a thorough investigation in identifying who is behind this fake tweet," he told reporters outside Northeast district police headquarters early today.
Yesterday a snap shot of the tweet has been circulated on the WhatsApp messaging platform.
In the tweet, Lim was alleged to have said: "Larangan pembesar suara di Masjid&Surau dlm P. Pinang muktamad. Mereka yang tak setuju tak layak tinggal dalam negeri ini. Sila Keluar!" (The ban of loudspeakers at mosques and suraus in Penang is final. Those who do not agree no longer qualify to live in this state. Get Out!)
Lim has denied that had issued that statement and said he has never interfered in Muslim affairs in the state.
