SUBANG JAYA: The Orang Asli community has been given the thumbs up for their participation in activities organised by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MBSJ).
Its president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said one thousand participants joined the Orang Asli Arts and Culture carnival which was held here for the second time.
He said among the communities that participated were those from Dengkil, Carey Island and Gombak, adding that the carnival's objective was to strengthen ties between them and also to promote and introduce their culture and arts to the locals as well as tourists.
He cited that RM8,000 has been allocated for the project and RM20,000 for the carnival.
"With this carnival, it can reduce some local social problems and expose the reality behind the Orang Asli's life (to the public)," he said.
On a separate note, MBSJ will continue with its Orang Asli Sungai Rasau village upgrading project in Puchong by focusing on their infrastructural needs.
The move is important because of its strategic location which is near the KLIA airport, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, allowing all to use the Damansara-Puchong Highway, he added.
