Three cops freed of RM40,000 bribery charge

    KUALA LUMPUR: Three policemen were acquitted and discharged while another police officer was ordered to make his defence for attempting to obtain a bribe of RM40,000 two years ago.
    Sessions Court Judge Allaudeen Ismail ordered Corporal Mahzan Hakim Mohamad Zain, 32, Lance Corporal Faizal Miza Zakariah, 31, and constable, Jasli Jahirin, 25, discharged and acquitted after the prosecution failed to raise a prima facie case against them.
    Instead, he ordered Inspector K.Raviindran, 34, to defend himself. All the accused were charged with jointly attempting to obtain a bribe of RM40,000 cash from a businessman, Dhalgit Singh Mahinder Singh, 32, as an inducement to release K.Manimaran who was arrested for drug possession.
    They allegedly committed the offence between 1.30am and 2am, in front of a McDonald's restaurant in Kepong, here on June 5, 2013.
    All of them were attached to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Sentul District Police Headquarters. The court has fixed Nov 3 and 4 for Raviindran's defence to be called.
    The prosecution was conducted by MACC deputy public prosecutor Lokman Kasim while counsel Geethan Ram Vincent represented all the accused. – Bernama
