KOTA KINABALU: People, who neglected their health care, is considered as a waste of resources to the country, said Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan (pix).
He said the people, regardless of young or old, could contribute to their own progress as well as that of their family and country if they were concerned of their health.
"Datuk Lee Chong Wei (national badminton player) and Datuk Nicol David (national squash player) are examples of those who can compete with athletes much younger than themselves.
"Both these athletes showed that age is not a factor to a deterioration in their competitiveness provided they have discipline and practise a healthy lifestyle all the time," he said.
He was officiating the "Cultivating a Healthy Lifestyle Among Civil Servants" in the Sarawak National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) near here today.
Tawfiq said people with chronic but manageable diseases could also generate higher productivity compared to those not suffering from any chronic diseases but are obese and do not exercise.
He said the National Sports Day programme on Oct 10 reflected the government's seriousness in promoting and cultivating a healthy life style among the people and civil servants in particular. – Bernama
