Asean conference on women in politics to address 4 objectives

KUALA LUMPUR: The Asean conference on women in politics will be held here on Oct 17 with the theme "Promoting representation through connectivity and innovation".
Barisan Nasional women's wing chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (pix) told a press conference here today the meeting will address four main objectives.
They include building a political network for Asean women involved in politics while urging them to participate in decision-making positions through the Internet's connectivity and innovation.
The others are sharing practices and developing a regional commitment via politics, discussing the 'Power of 51' which is part of BN's agenda for women's inclusion in the political arena and engagement with the youth, or "Gen Z".
The conference, to be held at the Dewan Merdeka in Putra World Trade Centre here, will be opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
It will come up with a joint recommendation by 18 Asean political parties tol be submitted to the Asean chairman and will also be brought up at the coming Umno annual general assembly in December, she said.
Meanwhile, the wing's deputy chief, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, told theSun that progress is being made to strengthen the Persons with Disabilities Act and that the Child's Act will be discussed in the next Parliament session.
