MBPJ launches license renewal campaign

PETALING JAYA: The local City Council (MBPJ) is going all out to encourage business owners to renew their licenses before the Dec 31 deadline.
Among the tricks in the bag, MBPJ mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said, is the "Jom Bayar Lesen" campaign, where mobile counters will be placed in several shopping malls in the city for the people's convenience.
These include AmCorp Mall (Nov 3- Nov 5), Sunway Giza (Nov 10- Nov 11), One Utama (Nov 17- Nov 19), Paradigm Mall (Nov 23- Nov 24), Giant Kelana Jaya (Nov 25- Nov 26), Citta Mall (Dec 2- Dec 3), Jaya Shopping Centre (Dec 16- Dec 17), and Tropicana City Mall (Dec 22- Dec 23).
These counters will be opened from 11am to 6pm on the stipulated dates.
The mobile counters will also be placed in Pasar Malams in Taman Megah, SS2, Kelana Jaya, Kayu Ara, Sunway Mentari, Sungai Buloh and Taman Sri Manja among others.
Separately, Mohd Azizi said MBPJ staff had also developed a "Self-Checking System" for mobile phones, tablets, and computers so applicants can easily check the status of the license renewal application.
He said the public can simply log on to eperkhidmatan.mbpj.gov.my/elesen, key in their account number and their application status will be displayed instantly.
Another initiative by the City Council is QR Code stickers that will come along with the licenses which businesses are to display for the convenience of the public and MBPJ enforcement officers.
Mohd Azizi said this is to ensure that businesses have valid licenses to ply their trade as the QR Code will reveal details of the business as registered with the City Council when scanned.
He said starting next year, it will be compulsory to display the sticker in an easy to see location not taller than 183cm.
Once the deadline had lapsed, businesses have until March to renew their licenses along with a late payment of RM50, and after that, businesses will have until July to renew along with a charge of RM300.
