RM2b allocated for flood alleviation projects in Pahang

    PEKAN: The government allocated RM2 billion to implement two flood alleviation projects (RTB) and the Pahang River Estuary conservation project in efforts to ease the flood problems that occurred during the monsoon season in the state.

    Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Ir Hamim Samuri said the two flood alleviation projects were the Pekan RTB and Kuantan RTB, costing RM564 million and RM445 million respectively.

    "The Pekan RTB which began in 2011 cost a total of RM564 million and this is almost 50% completed, while the Kuantan RTB will be implemented under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) with the cost expected to be RM445 million which will be completed within five years.

    "The Pahang River Estuary conservation project costing RM1.01 billion is now almost 40% completed and it is expected to be fully completed in 2016," he said.

    The deputy minister disclosed this to reporters after making a two-day working visit to Pahang and to observe the implementation of the Pekan RTB project and the conservation of the Pahang River Estuary, here today. – Bernama
