API improves nationwide, except for one

KUALA LUMPUR: Air quality nationwide has improved as of 9am today except for Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan which has an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 104.
The Department of Environment stated in its portal that 36 areas recorded moderate API readings including Langkawi (99); Bandaraya Melaka (98); Bukit Rambai (97); Pasir Gudang and Banting (93); Sri Manjung (92); Larkin Lama (91); Port Klang (86); and Kangar (84).
Other areas in the same API category are Seberang Jaya 2, Prai and Kuala Terengganu (80); Shah Alam (79); Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang (78); Putrajaya and Balok Baru, Kuantan (77); Kemaman (75); and Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Pegoh, Ipoh (72).
Meanwhile, 14 areas in Sabah and Sarawak recorded good air quality with API readings of between 28 and 49.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and 300 and above, hazardous.

Meanwhile, visibility of less than 3km in the waters off Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang and Sarawak is expected to persist until Thursday (Oct 8).
This condition is dangerous to ships that are not equipped with navigational equipment, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement today.
The same situation is also reported in waters off the Straits of Malacca, Tioman, Bunguran, Kuching and Reef South. – Bernama
