KUALA LUMPUR: Asean will endorse a decade-long blueprint aimed at addressing issues from socio-cultural perspectives.
Opening the 14th Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) council meeting, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri lauded the blueprint's target of raising the quality of life for Asean's people.
"Its finalisation will be an important milestone to advance the Asean community in the coming decade, acting as a commitment in bringing people at the heart of its regional integration activities," she said.
In her address, Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said: "We expect to implement key outcomes during the meeting including the empowerment of Asean's older persons, higher education, eliminating violence against women and children, climate change, as well as the civil service.
"Alongside the Asean Community Vision 2025, political security and economic blueprints, the ASCC blueprint, which will last from 2016 to 2025, will be adopted by Asean's leaders at its Summit on Nov 22," said Mas Ermieyati.
