Penang still shrouded by haze

08 Oct 2015 / 17:49 H.

GEORGE TOWN: The haze continues in Penang as smoke from slash-and-burn agriculture practices in Indonesia envelope the region.
Air quality in the state via Air Pollutant Index (API) readings were on the higher side of the moderate range as at 2pm.
At that time, the highest reading was recorded in Seberang Jaya 2 with an API of 74 followed by USM with 71 and Prai which recorded an API of 63.
Air quality is considered unhealthy for API readings of over 100 while readings more than 300 are hazardous.
Visibility was also affected with all three monitoring stations recording single digits for horizontal visibility.
The lowest visibility as at 2pm was recorded at Prai with a 3km visibility radius while Butterworth and Bayan Lepas recorded visibility of 4km and 5km respectively.
