GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng (pix) questioned whether assessment on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has been conducted independently and professionally following Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) clearing the state investment firm from any offence of making false statements.
"The timing of AGC's announcement is suspicious as it came out after Malay rulers expressed their concerns over this matter in two days ago," said Lim.
Lim added up to this moment, Middle Eastern donor, who donated RM2.6 billion to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, is still unknown.
He further said that the Attorney-General (AG) post is also politicised now because the current AG, Tan Sri Apandi Mohamed Ali, replaced Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail in July when Abdul Gani in the midst of investigating 1MDB.
Yesterday, the AGC, in a press statement, stated that 1MDB did not commit any offence related to false disclosure despite Bank Negara Malaysia's appeal to review the case.
1MDB officials were investigated under the Exchange Control Act 1953 for recklessly making a false statement.
