MMEA rescues two foreign tourists from burning yacht

    ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency rescued two foreign tourists at sea near Langkawi after their yacht was destroyed by a fire today.
    MMEA Northern Region operations director Capt (Maritime) Salim Ahmad said Joseph McDonnel, 69, of Australia and Nancy Anita Pedersen, 50, of Denmark were plucked from the sea near Pulau Lalang at about 1.30pm.
    "Soon after we were notified, we instructed a patrol boat from Langkawi to rush there. The tourists were uninjured," he said in a statement.
    They were sent to the Kuah police station, he added.
    Salim appealed to eye-witnesses of the incident to contact the MMEA at 999 or 04-96662750 (at the Langkawi Maritime District 1 operations room). — Bernama
