IPOH: Firemen acted swiftly to contain the leakage of ammonia from an ice cream factory before it could pollute the air and pose a health hazard to residents in Jelapang here today.
A Fire and Rescue department spokesman said a team of Hazardous Materials Team (Hazmat) personnel rushed to the premises after it received a call on the leakage at about 6.40am.
"Checks revealed a leak in the main pipe but the situation was under control and there was no immediate danger to the surrounding area," he added.
The Hazmat team managed to close the main valve in the pipe to stop the leak.
The spokesman said firemen monitored the area for any leakages before the factory technicians carried out repair work.
