PETALING JAYA: Genting Hong Kong has acquired iconic Singapore club brand, Zouk, for an undisclosed sum with an aim to expand the global brand, clubs and music festival across the region.
Under the terms of agreement, Genting Hong Kong will acquire Zouk’s major trademarks along with the new Zouk Club in Clarke Quay, Singapore, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2016.
Genting Hong Kong said it will continue to operate the annual ZoukOut dance music festival, with the next event coming up in December.
The agreement excludes Zouk Kuala Lumpur club at Jalan Tun Razak.
“As Genting Hong Kong continues to expand its reach in attracting a younger and more lifestyle driven clientele, we are confident that the addition of such an iconic institution will further complement and enhance the company’s overall brands and offerings across the region,” Genting Hong Kong vice president of lifestyle and F&B concepts Andrew Li said.
In a statement yesterday, Genting Hong Kong said Zouk, launched in Singapore in March 1991, remains at the forefront of the global clubbing scene, putting Singapore on the world dance map and also catapulting Asia’s dance music culture forward.
Zouk brand founder Lincoln Cheng said, “Zouk, a world-class brand, has all along held ambitions to expand beyond Singapore and Malaysia. Genting Hong Kong will take the Zouk brand to the next level and to greater heights together with the existing Zouk Singapore team, mapping its footprint out of Singapore and Malaysia, and for the future”.
Zouk was ranked seventh in the world by global consumers in DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 Best Clubs In The World.
