Prasarana lauds 'BRT' for Kota Kinabalu in Budget 2016

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd today praised the government's move to implement the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system in Kota Kinabalu which will definitely improve the quality of public transport systems and lifestyles of the population in Sabah.
President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said Prasarana the proposal and various initiatives to improve the country's public transport system will go down well with the people.
"The BRT and other proposals announced coincide with the government's aspiration to increase the use of public transport modal share to 40% level by 2030," said Azmi.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today announced that two BRT projects would be implemented next year, namely the BRT Kuala Lumpur – Klang and BRT Kota Kinabalu, each of which is estimated at RM1.5 billion and RM1 billion, respectively.
Azmi said government measures to implement the BRT Kuala Lumpur-Klang was on the right track, which would help give greater impact in reducing traffic congestion in the Klang Valley while improving the quality of public transport system.
He added that, in addition to LRT, the BRT project was certainly the best formula to increase the percentage of public transport users.
"As announced by Prime Minister, projects being implemented by Prasarana are in progress and they will be operational as scheduled.
"LRT Line Extension Project Ampang and Kelana Jaya will have a major impact in this percentage increase," he added. – Bernama
