Panda cub ready for public eye in 2-3 weeks

KUALA LUMPUR: The public can view the female panda cub, born to giant pandas Xing Xing and Liang Liang, in another two or three weeks, said National Zoo deputy president Rosli Ahmat Lana.
He said preparations were being made by the zoo for the purpose.
"Liang Liang (mother panda) is now able to let go of her baby for an hour a day in the isolation room. It will be increased to a minimum of two hours daily to prepare the cub for public viewing," he told Bernama.
He said the cub was now two months old and healthy, with a body weight of almost 5 kg.
"She can now run in the cage and the spots on the body are now full," he added.
In another development, Rosli said Liang Liang and Xing Xing were also in good health and had adapted to the environment.
The baby panda was born on Aug 18 at the Giant Panda Conservation Centre (GPCC) at the National Zoo.
She would be sent back to China after her second birthday, while her parents would remain in Malaysia for 10 years as agreed by both governments.
The giant panda pair, which were previously called Fu Wa and Feng Yi, arrived in Malaysia on May 24, 2014 as a symbol of the 40 years of diplomatic ties between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing. – Bernama
