Two unemployed men plead not guilty to drug trafficking, possession

MALACCA: Two unemployed men pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court today to charges of drug trafficking and possession.

Liew Kai Cheng, 28, and Tan Lai Kim, 48, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh.

The two men, and another person, Vietnamese woman Hoang Thi Quynh, 25, were jointly charged with trafficking in 460gm of heroin at Jalan Melaka Raya 1, Taman Melaka Raya, Bandar Hilir here at 12.30am last Oct 24.

The charge, under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

They were also jointly charged with three counts of drug possession, involving 8.4gm of methamphetamine; 30gm of nimetazepam and 3.5gm of ketamine at the same place, date and time.

Hoang requested the charges against her to be read in the Vietnamese language and Mohd Firdaus set Dec 8 for mention of the case against her for the court to obtain a Vietnamese interpreter.

Tan also faced another charged with possession of 15gm of methamphetamine at the same place, date and time, while Liew two other charges for drug trafficking.

The charges against Liew were for trafficking in 45gm of heroin and 5,000gm of ketamine at 199-C, Jalan Kesidang 2/1, Taman Kesidang here at 2am last Oct 24.

Mohd Firdaus set Dec 8 to mention the case pending a chemist report. – Bernama
