KUALA LUMPUR: The public is advised not to use any electrical equipment if their premises were flooded to avoid unwanted incidents like electrocution.
In a statement today, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) also requested the public to switch off main power supply in their house and contact TNB immediately so that the utility company can take the necessary actions.
“Please contact the nearest TNB office, TNB Careline 15454 or our TNB Careline Facebook the moment your house is flooded so that we can cut off the electricity supply to prevent any unwanted incident,” TNB corporate affairs and communication senior general manager Datuk Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin said.
He added that TNB will temporarily shut down the power supply to the affected areas’ substations if the water level breaches the danger level.
"The temporary shutdown is necessary to ensure the public's safety and power will be restored once the flood water recedes," he said.
Mohd Aminuddin also advised parents to constantly monitor their children to ensure they do not go near any fallen electrical post or any disconnected wires during floods as the water may be conducting electricity.
Consumers were also urged to check with registered electrical contractors on whether electrical equipment that was submerged in flood water is safe for usage.
