Public reminded to pay AES summonses

IPOH: Traffic offenders with outstanding summonses for offences recorded by 14 Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras nationwide have been reminded to pay up.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the cameras were functioning and those slapped with summonses should settle them.
His reminder comes in the wake of talks that the summonses may be scrapped.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of SMJK Poi Lam here today, Liow said the decision to scrap or otherwise would be made by the Cabinet.
Liow, however, confirmed that AES is currently undergoing a review to place the system in line with the Kejara demerit point system.
"We are not dragging our feet but the government has to come out with something which can be implemented for the benefit of the rakyat," he added.
theSun had reported that the government is prepared to quash "cold storage" cases during the pilot stage in order to move on to the second phase.
The AES pilot stage was plagued by a legal technical snag arising from the first stage of evidence gathering process that was not done by enforcement officers.
The frozen court cases and fines of around half a billion ringgit since September 2012 are impeding the execution of the second phase of AES at 350 locations scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2016.
