Asean Business Investment Summit in KL on Nov 20-21

    Kuala Lumpur: The Asean Business Investment Summit (ABIS) in back in its 12th edition to be held at the Shangri-La on the 20th and 21st of November, to serve as the central platform for private sector input and discussions on economic issues in the region.
    Organized by the Asean Business Advisory Council (Asean-BAC), the packed programme will feature addresses by the President of the United States, Barack Obama, the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzō Abe, and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
    ABIS 2015 will be officially launched by the 2015 Asean chair, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak and host more than 20 speakers from around the globe, consisting of thought leaders, regional economists, key business players and other Asean experts. A number of Asean Economic Ministers will discuss and review progress of the AEC.
    ABIS 2015 chairman Tan Sri Munir Abdul Majid said the event is expected to attract some 800 participants representing multi-national corporations, regional conglomerates and businesses from around the world.
    "The Asean Economic Community (AEC) is a requisite framework in the regional integration process and its progress will be the main topics discussed at ABIS, alongside the all-important post-2015 economic agenda for Asean", he added.
    Themed "Business for the People", ABIS will have designated discussions on the overarching issues of financial integration in the Asean economy and prevailing people-centric issues such as the SME agenda, women and young entrepreneurship. Post-2015 emphasis will be placed on the importance of innovation, digitalization and sustainable development, taking into consideration their significant and long-term impact on the community-building process.
    Munir also said, "ASEAN-BAC this year alone produced two reports, one already presented at the Asean-BAC Dialogue with ASEAN Leaders held in April this year, and subsequently discussed further in August with the Asean Economic Ministers. The second report will be presented later this week and findings from various private sector discussions will be included and forwarded to the highest level of the regional decision-making process".
    ABIS 2015 will also see the presentation of the 8th Asean Business Awards (ABA), the leading business success showcase programme in recognition of regional business excellence. This will be the first time ABA is held in Malaysia and will incorporate a total of 21 Awards, including the recognition of SME Excellence and the identification of successful young and woman entrepreneurship.
    Judged by a regional panel of Judges representing all 10 Asean countries on the core criteria of Growth, Innovation, Employment and Corporate Social Responsibility, this year's ABA will also highlight business excellence of Asean businesses in the 12 Asean-endorsed Priority Integration Sectors.
    Additionally, in view of the significant global investments in the region, ABA 2015 will also introduce the all-new category of "Friends of Asean" Awards to recognize excellence of non-Asean multi-national corporations with strong presence in the region.
    ABA 2015 will also present another key Asean-BAC initiative, the inauguration of the Asean Young Entrepreneurs Council (AYEC), which has been incubated by Asean-BAC over the course of the last few years and hand out a Lifetime Achievement Award for contribution over the years to realization of the AEC.
