KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no motion of no-confidence against Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's leadership at the party's general assembly scheduled in December.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammddin Hussein said 191 divisions had submitted their motions and confirmed that there is no motion against Najib.
"In fact, 132 divisions have given their motion of validation to support the party leadership, I can say that there is no motion of no-confidence calling for him (Najib) to step down," Hishammuddin told reporters during a press conference at Parliament lobby here.
Hishammuddin also noted that motions of validation from the divisions were not compulsory.
"There is no necessity for them (divisions) to come out with motions of support but they can do so if they want to, What is more important is whether there are divisions with motions of no-confidence and there is none," he said.
Hishammuddin added the party will not restrict delegates from bringing up sensitive issues as he claimed the party wants "inclusivity" in its approach.
Hishammuddin added there will be a special convention on Nov 24 to discuss issues raised in the motions.
The convention, which will be attended by 600 people, will pass several resolutions to be brought to the Umno general assembly.
Meanwhile, secretariat secretary Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin said a total of 738 motions were received from Umno divisions nationwide.
Of this, she said 513 would be debated while 225 were validation statements that would be accepted without debate.
