Kelantan MACC detains 33 suspects in numerous bribery cases since January

KOTA BARU: Thirty-three suspects were detained by the Kelantan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with numerous bribery cases between January and yesterday.

Its director, Datuk Ab Aziz Aban, said those detained comprised 25 employees of federal and state governments, six civilians and two private company workers.
"The statistics from the past 10 years showed that 11 individuals were charged each year with over 350 reports lodged, also each year.

"However, since 2014, we received approximately 160 reports of higher quality and as a result, more suspects had been taken to court," he told reporters after attending the MACC Futsal Carnival in conjunction with the World Anti-Corruption Day 2015 celebration here today.

Ab Aziz said the cases involved bribe of between RM300 and RM80,000.

He said four of the suspects were already convicted, 21 had been prosecuted, two facing disciplinary action, four under investigation, one blacklisted, and one case was closed due to the lack of evidence. — Bernama
