ALOR STAR: A new operator will be appointed in March next year to manage the incinerator plant at Belanga Pechah, Langkawi.
Kedah Local Government, Water Supply, Water Resources and Energy and Non-Governmental Organisation Committee chairman Datuk Badrol Hisham Hashim said the government was in the midst of finalising the tender documents which would be issued next month.
He said the incinerator was currently not in operation, following the termination of the contract with then operator last April after the company was found to have not carried out its job according to the scope stated in the contract.
He said this in a statement today to clarify his earlier statement, made on Nov 17, in the State Assembly sitting when responding to a question by Kuah Assemblyman Nor Saidi Nayan on the status of the incinerator.
The incinerator, which uses the waste to energy concept, was built in March 2008 and completed in May 2012. It can dispose 100 tonne of rubbish daily and prior to its closure, it has treated 30,000 tonne of solid waste. — Bernama
