596 flood victims still in evacuation centres

    KUALA SELANGOR: A total of 596 flood victims are still at six evacuation centres in the Kuala Selangor district since 10.30am today.
    Kuala Selangor district officer Shamsul Shahril Badlisza Mohd Noor said 408, involving 75 families, were being accommodated at SK Parit Mahang.
    The others are at the Kampung Bukit Kuching Community Hall (61 people), Kampung Bukit Cherakah Community Hall (35), Kampung Bukit Hijau Community Hall Hijau (34), Simpang Tiga Jeram mosque (29) and Tuan Mee Plantation (29), he told reporters here today.
    He said the district office and relevant agencies, including the Drainage and Irrigation Department, had made various preparations in anticipation of high tide in Kuala Selangor from today until Nov 29.
    "They include cleaning and widening the drains in flood-prone areas, and increasing the height of bunds and repairing of river banks," he added.
    Meanwhile, in Sungai Petani, 60 flood victims were evacuated to the Kampung Jerung relief centre here following Sunday's flash flood.
    Kuala Muda civil defence officer Lt Muda Azahar Ahmad said the victims were from Kampung Jerung, Kuala Ketil, in the district of Kuala Muda.
    Among the areas affected were Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital, Taman Nuri, Taman Serindik, Jalan Air Mendidih and Jalan Batu Lintang Kampung Hutan Gelam. – Bernama
