'Raba-raba' during security checks necessary, Dewan Rakyat told

KUALA LUMPUR: It is necessary to grope (raba-raba) passengers during security checks at airports to detect bombs as it is “high standard” practice, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said using bare hands to do body checks are better in detecting explosives.
However he was quick to point out that the security personnel do not “grope” the passengers or touch any private areas as they are trained to do the checks properly.
“The issue of groping does not arise as raised by Putatan (MP). The security checks are done by personnel according to gender – male to male and female to female.
“This is because Malaysia implements high standards of security checks, so it is necessary,” Abdul Aziz said when winding up his speech on the Budget 2016 debate at committee stage today.
He added that not all body scanners can detect explosives like ceramic explosive materials.
“The raba raba is not at private areas, it is just on the outside areas,” Abdul Aziz said.
He was responding to Datuk Marcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan), who expressed dissatisfaction about the security checks at airports saying that he was “groped” at least twice by security officials.
