Student denies causing hurt to father

    KUALA LUMPUR: A student pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court here today to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt on her father.
    Lum Kar Yee, 18, made the not guilty plea after the charge was read to her in Mandarin before magistrate Nur A'minahtul Mardiah Md Nor.
    She was charged with voluntarily causing hurt on her father, Lum Su Hai, 45, with a knife at No. 47, Jalan 10/2B, Taman Desa Bakti, Sentul here at 10.30am on Nov 22.
    The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term up to three years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two, if found guilty.
    Deputy public prosecutor R. Siamalah offered bail at RM4,000 in one surety.
    Nur A'minahtul Mardiah ordered Kar Yee to be sent for mental observation and allowed bail of RM2,500 in one surety. She set Jan 11 for mention. – Bernama
