PETALING JAYA: The federal government has failed to harness and reward local talent in the civil service, said Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Azmin said the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has shown a lack of faith in its civil servants by hiring foreigners as consultants.
The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president was responding to criticism from various quarters that he awarded an "excessive" bonus to civil servants in the state (one and a half months of their salary) compared to the federal government which only provided a special allowance of RM500.
“I received many calls and text messages from people who are happy with the Selangor government for recognising and appreciating the efforts of civil servants.
"When they (civil servants) are given recognition and ample space to perform, they will carry out their duties excellently in order to develop the state," he said during his speech at the party’s 11th Annual Youth and Women’s Wings Congress earlier this morning.
Azmin added that many promising local talents have expressed interest in joining the civil service in Selangor.
"But as I said before, let us move to Putrajaya first and foremost," he said to thunderous applause from the 5,000 party delegates present.
