KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking Charles Suresh Morais (pix), the brother of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais after he left the country on Thursday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told a press conference today that Charles had immediately fled about 1.30am, after he spoke to the media at his lawyer's office on Wednesday.
Khalid said checks by police found that he left Malaysia via the Johor Baru causeway.
"He is a very irresponsible man. He was trying to interfere with the leaders and authorities in the country.
"He is a coward. He made the accusations and fled," Khalid said after the Inspector Police Graduation ceremony at the police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today.
Khalid also said that police will call Charles' lawyer, Americk Sidhu, to facilitate investigations.
"I don't want to comment on Richard Morais' statement. That is between him and his brother. However, we will call him if necessary," he added.
When asked whether police will seek Interpol's assistance, Khalid said they will request help from Americk Sidhu first before proceeding with other alternatives.
"If that fails, we will try to find the best option in solving this matter," Khalid said.
He added an Investigation Paper (IP) has been opened to investigate Charles under Section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code for withholding information and Section 124(L) of the Penal Code for attempts to commit sabotage.
"It is everyone's responsibility to inform authorities if they have any information on the suspect," Khalid said.
