NUSAJAYA: The Johor state government will amend the multi-goods licence bylaw on Wednesday to prohibit the sale of vaporisers and E-liquids.
This move comes in the wake of the royal decree by Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, to ban the sale of all vaping products in the state from Jan 1.
"We will submit an amendment to the multi-goods licence bylaw, and prohibit the selling of e-cigarettes, vaporisers and e-liquids," State Housing and Local Government executive committee chairman Datuk Abdul Latif Bandi said at a press conference today.
He said first offenders will be fined between RM500 to RM2,000.
The authority will seize all the vaping products if the offence is repeated under the bylaw.
He said after the amendment, no licence will be issued for any vape sales.
Earlier, State Health and Environment executive committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said in a press conference outside the state assembly sitting that the state government welcomes the decree of Sultan Ibrahim issued on Nov 28 to ban vaping in Johor from Jan 1.
"We have been informed that even secondary school students are taking up vaping, and the e-liquids make it easier for drug abuse," Ayub added.
The state Pharmaceutical Services Division under the Health Ministry will be responsible for collecting data from traders and related agencies.
