Pakatan Harapan admits uphill task in Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan appears to be facing an uphill task in the next general elections in the two Borneo states.
This is due to the fact that there is now a new political sentiment in the two states, according to Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian.
"There is a new development of 'Sarawak for Sarawakians' amongst the public. They are campaigning that political parties from 'Malaya' have no use in Sarawak. I believe such sentiment is present in Sabah as well," he said.
"We (PKR) are seen as a party from the Peninsula," he said in his winding-up speech at the party's 11th National Congress at Ideal Convention Centre here.
Baru said the popularity of Sarawak chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem was also among challenges facing mainland parties.
"The latest study has shown that Adenan's popularity is at 73% among the people of Sarawak," he added.
He said although its going to be hard winning Sarawak, they hope to win more seats in the next election.
Among the challenges faced by the opposition in the state is the distribution of seats to be contested among opposition parties in the next state election.
"Our problem is DAP who is against hudud," said Baru.
"However, with the formation of Pakatan Harapan, we have invited Amanah and DAP to return for negotiation," he added.
