Army commando charged for possession of IS related T shirt

PARIT: A 28-year-old army commando was charged in the magistrate's court today for possessing a T-shirt associated with the IS militant group.
Mohd Abu Haliff Shah Abu Bakar from Sungai Udang army commando camp, Malacca, pleaded not guilty to the charge before magistrate Mohd Fitri Sadarudin.
He is alleged to have committed the offence at house No: 185 / TS/10/1A, Kampung Baru, Mukim Lambor Kiri, Bota, here, at 1.30pm on Nov 12, 2015.
The charge under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code carries a jail term up to seven years or fine and forfeiture of rights over publications. Under this new anti-terrorism provision, those in possession of any items associated with any terrorist groups or the commission of a terrorist act would have the items forfeited.
DPP Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
The case is set for a re-mention on Jan 6 at the magistrate court here before being transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
