A dazzling night for charity

KUALA LUMPUR: The heavy downpour and road closures due to the 27th Asean Summit on Nov 20 failed to dampen the spirit of the kind-hearted when over 1,000 people turned up for the 4th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner of Great Heart Charity Association to do their part in support of charity. They were joined by 150 invited beneficiaries from various orphanages, old folks homes, Homes for the Disabled, and Great Heart's underprivileged Family Care beneficiaries. The objective of the function is to show the association's appreciation towards the public, sponsors, and volunteers who have been supporting them in their charitable endeavours throughout the years and also to provide an opportunity to gather the public with the beneficiaries for interaction purpose while fundraising for the association at the same time. With this, they hope to deliver their missions in philanthropy works to more people.
Various dazzling performance was arranged for the night to entertain the attendees; from energetic Chinese Drums performance and singing, to sand art performance and Grand Illusion by international award-winning illusionists Mark & Pinky. A notable performance was a live Chinese calligraphy demonstration by disabled calligrapher Jayson Pua, which managed to fetch RM38,888 via an auction held right after the completion of his writing, to be donated to the association to fund its charitable cause.
According to president of Great Heart Charity Association, Franky See during his speech, all the messages that were conveyed by Great Heart Charity through their various programs are a testament to the determination and dedication of their group of young-blooded volunteers towards charity. He stressed that by overcoming challenges in life, a person is able to instil motivation and courage in others, while cultivating humility in life. He is also convinced that everyone has a good heart and the ability to love and show compassion.
Meanwhile, vice president of Great Heart Charity Association, Yuen Juin Hoe, commented that since 2013, the association had assisted over 100 underprivileged families under their Family Care and Dialysis Support program, while during the period from July 2014 until June 2015, they had also organised 77 activities benefiting nearly 2,000 people that includes children, old folks, the disabled, poor families, and orang asli. Under their Geng Xin Tang program, the association had also donated to 158 funeral services for the underprivileged as of October 2015.
Awards were then presented to sponsors and volunteers in recognition of their support and services throughout the year towards the association, before ending the gala dinner with a cake-cutting ceremony.
