PETALING JAYA: MMC Corp Bhd is partnering with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to secure potential opportunities in the railway freight transport and related businesses.
A joint-venture company, known as KTMB MMC Cargo Sdn Bhd, has been set up to facilitate the plans, with MMC holding a 49% stake, while KTMB owns the remainder.
MMC currently has a presence in the transportation segment under its port and logistics division through the ownership or stakes holding in its subsidiaries, namely Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johor Port, Northport and Senai Airport Terminal Services.
MMC believes KTMB MMC Cargo’s presence will complement its transportation chain. It will also have access to KTMB’s rail network in Peninsula Malaysia such as Port Klang and Penang Port.
MMC group managing director Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamed Noh said it will increase the frequency of the rail inter-terminal transfer between ports owned by MMC.
