LANGKAWI: Tourist arrivals to Langkawi is projected to increase by nearly one million a year starting next year, with the legendary island having attracted more than three million tourists over the past four
    years, which exceeded its target.
Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) chief executive Officer Tan Sri Khalid Ramli said a new target of 3.8 million was being considered under the Langkawi Tourism Blueprint 2.0, which is now in the drafting stage and expected to be launched next year.
"In the last blueprint (for 2011-2015), the annual target was three million tourist arrivals and every year, we exceeded the target.
"Now, we are setting a target of 3.8 million for next year," he told Bernama here.
He said statistics on tourist arrivals to be gathered at the end of 2016 would be crucial to determine the prospects for the implementation of the second blueprint.
"We are also taking into account the world scenario as well in drafting this blueprint, which I hope can be finalised before June next year," he added.
Khalid said under the blueprint, the federal government planned to make Langkawi the first low-carbon island in Malaysia. – Bernama
