KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has appointed Mohamed Rafe Mohamed Haneef as CEO and executive director of CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd, as well as CEO of the group Islamic banking division, effective Jan 4, 2016.
Rafe was previously helming HSBC Amanah as its executive director and CEO.
CIMB has been on the lookout for a new leader for its Islamic banking unit since July 2015 following the abrupt resignation of former CEO Badlisyah Abdul Ghani.
CIMB group CEO Tengku Datuk Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said Rafe is a proven leader with a broad understanding of Islamic banking, having been an Islamic banker for the last 15 years and worked in multiple financial centres around the world.
“I am confident he will bring value as he spearheads one of CIMB group’s key business pillars. I look forward to working closely with him to put into motion the plans that will further cement CIMB Islamic’s leading position in the Islamic banking arena globally,” said Zafrul.
