Netizens voice opinions over 'cross' air wells in Langkawi housing project

PETALING JAYA: Netizens of all races took to cyberspace to voice their opinions over the recent controversy over air wells that resembled the cross at a housing development in Langkawi.
The post, uploaded on Dec 22, drew both support and ridicule from Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
User Manz Ismail said he was embarrassed as a Muslim to see other Muslims behave with such extreme paranoia to see trouble where there is none.
"As a Muslim, I am embarrassed by Muslims who are just out looking for trouble. To the extent that even this is considered wrong," Manz said.
He added that the Al-Quran teaches Muslims to be calm and peaceful instead of encouraging extreme behaviour.
User Ottoman Othman said some Muslims are too sensitive about "cross-shaped things" and proceeded to school the uploader and those who supported him in architecture.
"For those who say I am stupid, let me teach you some architecture. The area circled in red (cross-shaped structure on roof) is the position of party walls and ventilation spaces," Ottoman uploaded a picture in response.
Another user simply said it was totally uncalled for.
Fi Elina, however, agreed with the poster's message, calling on fellow Muslims to be on guard lest their faith be eroded through such subversive imagery.
"Be careful, Malay Muslims. This is a veiled agenda to mislead the faith of fellow Muslims," she said.
In a latest development, the Kedah state government seems to have taken heed of these complaints and instructed the developer to rectify the "problem".
A local Malay online portal reported that state executive councillor for housing Tajul Urus Mat Zain said the government views the matter seriously and will closely monitor the project.
