PUTRAJAYA: Enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Federal Territories have been directed to enhance security patrols in areas of public and tourist concentration in the Federal Territory, said its minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Following the recent attack and bombing incidents in Turkey and Indonesia, he said the agencies, including the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Labuan Corporation and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) have made necessary preparations including increasing their security manpower.

"We will also cooperate with the police and discuss with the ministry and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein to ask for military assistance if the need arises," he said.

He disclosed this to the media after launching the Fly the Federal Territory Flag campaign, here today.

Tengku Adnan said the 'hotspot' areas in Kuala Lumpur where security patrols had been intensified included Bukit Bintang, Bangsar, Sri Hartamas and popular shopping centres at the The Curve, Publika and Kuala Lumpur Tower.

At the same time, the minister sought the cooperation of the public in lodging reports to the authorities if they came upon groups behaving in a suspicious manner.

He said he had also received information on the threat of violence including the plan to create chaos in the country.

Earlier, Tengku Adnan launched the Campaign To Fly the Federal Territory Flags 2016 celebrated in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day Celebration 2016 held on Feb 1 every year.

He said more than 5,000 flags had been distributed by the Putrajaya Corporation to 25 schools and 110 residents' associations and 1,000 flags had been put up in Putrajaya in conjunction with the campaign.

Carrying the theme 'Wilayah Ceria, Rakyat Sejahtera', he said the celebration also helped to absorb the spirit of belonging between the residents who mostly hailed from states outside the Federal Territory.

Meanwhile, he said the ministry would also give a 50% discount to members of the public who settled their summonses to the DBKL, PPj and Labuan Corporation from Feb 3 to 5 in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day celebrations. – Bernama
