KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) became the first government agency this year to sign a collaboration commitment with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to prevent corruption in the agency.

Sabah MACC deputy director (Prevention) Hasbilah Mohamad Salleh said the collaboration was very important to improve the quality and integrity of the department, thus creating awareness on corruption among its staff.

"Besides that, this effort will ensure transparency in every working process, rules and procedures as well as in the planning and supervision of the procurement, tender or government contracts," he said in a statement.

He said the cooperation given by the Sabah PWD was in line with the initiative proposed by state secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman in May 2015, who called for all the government agencies in the state to provide support and cooperation for anti-corruption efforts undertaken by the MACC.

Hasbilah said the signing of the commitment was held last Friday with about 72 people, including senior officers and engineers, pledging to express their supports towards efforts to prevent and combat corruption. – Bernama
