KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah Umno members who attended a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today remained tight-lipped when met by reporters.
The Kedah Umno leaders who called for Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir's removal as Kedah menteri besar had been in an hour long meeting with the prime minister earlier, but were less eager to comment on the details when approached.
Umno's Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said everything was fine and that there was nothing for him say.
Sik MP Dr Mansor Abd Rahman said he was not in the position to comment, adding: "I can't comment, sorry."
Rumours have been rife that Kedah Umno Division deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah may replace Mukhriz as Kedah's menteri besar.
Mukhriz in turn will be offered the International Trade and Industry deputy minister post, which he helmed previously, according to pro-Umno portal MyKMU.net.
Mukhriz has been under pressure after Ahmad Bashah on Tuesday claimed 14 out 15 Umno divisions in the state had lost their confidence in the first term MB.
Ahmad Bashah had urged Najib, who is also Umno President to replace Mukhriz, citing lack of leadership qualities and strategic plans, failure to unite the party, and improper governance of the state as reasons for removal.
Later, when met by reporter at Subang Airport, Mukhriz maintained that he has not done anything wrong in the face of an attempt of his ouster.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Branch Leaders Coalition (GKCM) deputy president Datuk Mohd Zin Mustapa threatened to hold a demonstration and to burn Umno's book of constitution if the party fails to take any action against those who conducted a press conference seeking for the removal of Mukhriz.
He said GKCM has forwarded a memo to Umno's disciplinary board chairman Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen to seek that action be taken, saying: "It would only be fair since nine of our Umno Teluk Kemang branch leaders were suspended for asking the removal of Najib".
"If no actions are taken, we will act until we are satisfied. Maybe we will hold a big demonstration or burn Umno's constitution book. If you can't use the book, might as well we burn it," he added.
