KUALA LUMPUR: A contractor said to be linked to a notorious underworld gang was shot dead by a gunman minutes after a discussion with two men at Jinjang Selatan yesterday.
The 40-year-old victim who was seated in his car and sustained gunshots on his face and chest was killed at the scene on Jalan 13/32 at about 2pm.
Sentul police chief ACP R.Munusamy said police went to the scene on receiving a call from the public and found the victim slumped in his seat.
He said investigations showed that the victim had met two men who came in two separate vehicles and is believed to have discussed a business related matter.
He said the discussion is believed to have turned ugly before one of the men pulled out a handgun and fired several gunshots at the victim.
Munusamy said the victim had attempted to escape but succumbed to his injuries.
He said police found spent bullet shells and a live bullet at the scene. The victim's sling bag, four mobile phones and wallet were also found intact.
Witnesses told police that they heard several gunshots before spotting two men flee from the scene in two four-wheel drive pick-up trucks. A car was also damaged when a driver of a truck crashed into it during his escape.
"We believe the victim knew his assailants and the motive of the killing is possibly related to business. Efforts to track down the suspects are ongoing." Munusamy said.
