CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Police are intensifing their efforts in the search for a mountain climber who went missing in the hills since Jan 15 by getting information from the public.
Cameron Highlands district police chief DSP Muhammed Rizal Kamarudin said they are now concentrating on the people whom Gan Cheng Lim, 70, met including the Orang Asli, before he went up the mountain.
"We received information that he met two Orang Asli here and we want to know what transpired between them.
"Information from the public is important to locate him as we continue with our search," he told theSun.
He said police closed three mountains to climbers since Jan 3 due to bad weather and slippery conditions but their search teams went in there to look for the climber.
The search has now been extended to Guang Musang Lojing mountains after police received information he had gone to conduct research on the Raffleisa flowers, considered the largest flower in the world, and can only be found in three places there and not in mountains in the highland resort.
It was reported Cheng Lim, from Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, was seen in Cameron Highlands from Jan 1 to 9. He told his brother, Chong Shiuan, 66, in early December that he will be climbing a mountain in Tanah Rata, which will take about three days.
Cheng Lim is an experienced climber and eco system researcher.
Chong Shiuan, also from Setapak, lodged a report at Sentul police station when his elder sibling could not be contacted.
